How Did We Get Here?

The Cocophiles has been in the making for quite a while, I just didn't realize it. I have been considered an urban cultural historian, which still feels too flattering for me, but I take pride in what I've learned, been exposed to, and sought out by myself and it feels like my God-given duty to share it with the communities that live it and appreciate it. My taste comes from my background, born in Philadelphia, I was given the gift of finding beauty within everything around me. Growing up in an unconventional, renaissance-like household, with worldly decor and exuding the self-defined luxuries as a Black family, the arts, learning about pop culture, and aesthetics were the main ways I learned to express myself. Today, I have merged my values, my style, my eye for beauty, and my commentary into a digital archive where I share Black cultural history, my definition of luxury, and personal experiences. The Cocophiles is about Black self-definition, opulence, and glamour--a platform to spotlight and preserve urban culture and history.
